New Amazon Prime Video and Freevee Shows and Movies in October 2024 (2)

Amazon's continued efforts to take over the world extend to its streaming service, Prime Video, especially this October. All four of the shows we're highlighting this month are of some international flavor, starting with the Italian spin-off of the spy thriller Citadel, Citadel: Diana. The most noteworthy new series this month is an Australian version ofThe Office, which I'm sure American audiences won't have a problem with at all. Ahem. There's also The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh, a sitcom about an Indian family that moves to America, and Like a Dragon: Yakuza, a Japanese action series based on the video game franchise.

Returning shows include the third season of the animated D&D series The Legend of Vox Machina and Season 2 of Peter Capaldi's chilling drama The Devil's Hour, and the big movies of the month are Killer Heat, a noir mystery starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Brothers, starring Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage as criminal siblings.

Below, you'll find our picks for the best shows and movies to watch on Amazon Prime Video in October, as well as the full list of everything coming to Prime Video and Freevee, the free service that's accessible through Prime Video but doesn't require Prime membership.

The best new movies and shows on Prime Video in October

Citadel: Diana (Oct. 10)

The first of Prime Video's international spin-offs of the Russo brothers' action seriesCitadelcomes from Italy and starsMatilda De Angelisas a spy embedded behind enemy lines several years after the timeline ofCitadel. The problem? Her spy agency has been dismantled, and she's stuck. The other problem? After Prime Video made huge international plans for expandingCitadel, the original series was panned by critics and fans. A second spin-off, India'sCitadel: Honey Bunny, is due out in November.[Trailer]

The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh (Oct. 17)

This charming sitcom in the vein of Fresh Off the Boat follows a family from India that immigrates to Pittsburgh, where American culture hits them like a big ol' pickup truck. The whole series is anchored by somewhat mysterious interrogation sessions of the Pradeeps at the U.S. immigration office — we don't know why they are there — where we see how their lives have been in the two years they've spent in America through flashbacks, each embellished by the family member telling the story. Naveen Andrews and Sindhu Vee star.[Trailer]

The Office (Australia)(Oct. 17)

First Australia "borrows" NCIS and moves it to Sydney, and now it's opening up its own branch of The Office? This new version of the popular BBC and NBC sitcom exchanges the bumbling David Brent (Ricky Gervais) and Michael Scott (Steve Carell) for Hannah Howard (Felicity Ward) as the boss of the packaging company Flinley Craddick. Before you take to your keyboard to post hate about this before you watch it, just remember we all thought the same thing about the American version of The Office. Be a good human and give it five minutes before you hate it.[Trailer]

Like a Dragon: Yakuza(Oct. 24)

The resurgence of video game adaptations for television has given us a few gems like HBO's The Last of Us and Prime Video's Fallout, and Prime Video is hoping that continues with Like a Dragon: Yakuza. This series, based on the Sega games, is set across two timelines — 1995 and 2005 — in the organized crime syndicate known as the Yakuza, following a group of friends as they rise up the ranks in the crime family. Noticeably missing, however, is any of the games' trademark silliness.[Trailer]
