Mickey Graham’s appointment to the Galway senior football management set-up is set to be confirmed inside the next 24 hours. Graham succeeded Andy Moran, who he assisted last season, in August as Leitrim manager on a three-year term but stepped down after just two months. Now Graham, who was part of Pádraic Joyce’s Connacht management team last weekend in Croke Park, is expected to serve the Galway manager on a more permanent nature, after being linked to take up the role as his number two, vacated by Cian O’Neill who joined Kerry in the close season. However, it is also understood that Joyce also intends to add another coach to his management team. When Graham stepped down as Leitrim manager last month, Leitrim GAA cited his reasons as being ‘beyond his control’. Graham boasts an impressive CV having led Longford minnows Mullinalaghta to a historic Leinster club title in 2018 and his native Cavan to a first Ulster title in 23 years. And as Moran’s assistant last season, he helped Leitrim secure promotion out of Division Four and was seen as the natural successor when the former Mayo star stepped down after three years in charge. Leitrim have yet to appoint a manager in the aftermath of Graham’s unexpected departure.
